[GW] GW ride update

We had a great turn out for our ride last nite, clearly a better turn
out than GW representation at Opus (way to go Matt).
Bald Eagle Lake was challenging,
partly b/c of the pace, but moreso b/c of the pot holes! Sara gets the award for
hitting the biggest hole! All in all, it was a good group ride.
Plan: We will ride the short route on Thursday again- around the lake, but it might make sense
to either split the group up, or slow down around that area.
We will start the traditional route next Tuesday.
Regarding the construction on Labore. Last night our GW cycle crossers (you know who you are)
decided we would just ride on through the sand/stuff and cross on over
the closed road. I suggest the alternative route (Pete described) for Thursday.

Matt/all,
I live near there and know the area pretty well. Labore Bridge is closed
until summer '08. I'd avoid E - lots of traffic and lights.
You can retrace the outbound route from Goose Lake Rd, under 35E, follow
C'ville Rd then take a left off C'ville Rd onto Edgerton at the stop
sign. This is just before you'd re-enter the water works area. Follow
Edgerton straight south to Little Canada Rd (second stop sign), and
right turn back onto our normal inbound route. Or you could turn right
on Cty D after the Edgerton/694 bridge - then you'd be following a very
old GW course (probably last ridden by the club in about 1992) down to
Little Canada Rd and right onto the normal course. This has the
advantage of no stop signs and no cross traffic, but the pavement is not
as good and the shoulder is narrower.

OK so I admit that it was tempting the fates to go out tonight and even
without any snow it wasn't the most pleasant riding conditions, but I
didn't
think I would be the only one to show for the training ride.
Since I did get out on our route I thought you would all be interested
to
know that Labore Road is out at the bridge over 694. This means we will
have to take a right at County Road E and head over to Centerville Road,
left to Edgerton and take that down to County Road C and finish the ride
back to County Cycles like usual. We could also continue along
Centerville,
going back along Vadnais Lake the same way we come out, but this would
mean
a left turn at Rice Street and that is a pretty ugly intersection in my
opinion. I guess we'll just have to see what works best. Of course
this is
all assuming that the unweave the weave construction isn't finished
before
we get nice enough weather for our training rides.
Matt
